Forever More

"Forever more", that is what the doctor said about Kylee Anne avoiding ALL peanuts and tree nuts (pecans, walnuts, etc...). I'm gonna give you guys the short version of this long evening of emergency care.

Saturday night I was toasting pecans to have on hand for salads next week and Ryan was pumped because he LOVES pecans. So once they were cool, I gave a small bowl of nuts to the kids to share. They made quick work of that bowl and everything seemed normal.

Within 10 minutes, Kylee Anne was REALLY coughing. It seemed a bit sudden but she is just getting over a nasty cold, so no worries yet. A few minutes later she really started to wheeze and Jack and I began to worry that maybe she was reacting to the pecans. We went ahead and gave her the Zyrtec it was time for anyway and put her into the bath. I set up the nebulizer for after her bath to help with the wheezing. As her clothes came off for her bath, a TERRIBLE red rash was revealed ALL over her little body and the itching really started. We made the decision to call the on call doctor and I was off with her to the Emergency Care Med Stop that had extended hours.

After a Benadryl shot, a steroid shot and a breathing treatment of nebulized epinephrine, all was well. Rash was gone and breathing was much improved. Avoid ALL nuts FOREVER MORE!
