Here we go again

We just returned from the Urgent Care with Ryan. He has strep throat. UGH!!!!!

I know that I have mentioned that he has been running some fever over the past few days...it seemed like a cold and nothing major. Well, he woke up during the night with a bad headache and a tummy ache. Having him cry and hold his head was alarming to me...I mean, 4 year olds don't typically have severe headaches, right? This morning he had a low temp and his head was still bothering him. As the morning progressed, he got worse and was really crying/whining while he held his head. He also complained with his tummy hurting. Then it happened...the vomit. I spoke to our pediatrician's office on the base and they sent us to the Urgent Care. (Thank goodness it wasn't the emergency room after Jack's terrible experience there last week.)

The nurse listened to our story and said "I have a hunch". She swabbed his throat and before we saw the doctor, she told us it was positive for strep. Now, I've had strep throat (actually pretty recently) and never did I have tummy troubles. The nurse said that for one thing (in her personal experience) little boys (more often than girls) have headaches and tummy woes with strep. That's why she immediately did the culture. The doctor also explained that the vomiting can come with the swallowing of the toxins from the strep. Interesting.

Looks like another weekend full of pushing fluids and recuperating.
